The demons of the past never really go away.
They reach up and consume all that you love.
Danny has watched his brothers find happiness and peace with their women. They have the kind of love a person spends their life searching for, the kind Danny believes he will never have. But Fate has other ideas, and Jill Is strong enough to battle the past with him.
Jill has her own demons, though, ones set on destroying the little oasis of peace she has fought so hard for. The problem is, there are some things not even the Mancini Family will be able to help her with.
When the monsters of their pasts claw up out of hell, Danny and Jill must fight their way through love to not only save each other, but the whole family.
The problem is, who are the demons after?
So I would like to say - there is mention of child abuse and rape in this book. This is referenced in the past tense and only mentioned once. But I feel like there should be a warning there just in case.
Danny and Jill are a fast paced romance that took them years to get to. Jill had a rough childhood and then got custody of her brother because her mom was a druggie who just didn’t care. For the last four years, Danny has been in their life but they were never together, that is until he couldn’t handle her going on a date with another man. After that, it was basically like a whirlwind. She almost immediately moved in with him, but there was a huge reason for that… One that I am not going to say because it would totally be a spoiler alert. And no, it’s probably not what you’re thinking. Jill goes through a lot of crap throughout the book and Danny is by her side protecting her and her brother Jamie in all of it. Not only Danny, but the entire Mancini family.
KB Barrett did wonders with this book. Not only did she make a wonderful read yet again, but she also tied up the series beautifully. This book CAN be read as a standalone, and if your read this book first and the rest later, it will work just fine too. Even if some of it will give spoilers for the first three books of the series.
Danny is kind of demanding and does get what he wants, but I believe that is to be expected in a Mafia. Granted, I have never been in one and I don't that I know anyone tied to one... But based off of those TV shows my husband likes to watch, it seems about right.
I love how Barret is able to transport us into the story itself and give us details that we are able to imagine the scene as it is playing out in the book.
I highly suggest this read to anyone who likes Mafia, mystery, a pushy man, or a really good book.
My favorite character is Danny. I have fantasized about this man since I read the first book and I couldn't wait for this one to come out. BUT apparently my book buddy Yvette has already licked him and claimed him as hers, and I don't share well... Cool thing about Book Boyfriends though, they have a million girlfriends and they don't even know it. So I will just pretend like I don't know that Yvette licked him first.
