Q&A With Jo Preston
Can you tell me a bit about yourself and how became an author?
For as long as I can remember I have always loved writing stories. I started by writing short stories for my sister and friends in high school. Even back then I was writing romance! I officially started writing books about 2 years ago but didn’t hit that publish button until October this year when I decided that maybe, just maybe someone might actually want to read all the craziness in my head.
What is your writing process like?
Honestly? I’m a pantser with a bit of a finish process.
I sit down and write basically what the characters tell me to. I would have a general idea in my head about a scene that might come up or something I’d like to include in the book but these change loads as I write. About 70% in I sit down and think about what else I want to write. Then write a short note for each chapter- these also change but I feel like they give me a bit more structure
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I have a three year old teenager, so most of the time when I’m not writing or working I hang out with him at the aquarium. Me time? What’s that? But I do like to go for an Afternoon Tea (how very English of me) with my friends or just sit at home drink wine, eat popcorn or fries and watch a good comedy show on Netflix
How do you celebrate when you are finished writing a book?
This is bad. So, so bad. I don’t. I really should start celebrating. But usually at that point I’d write the prologue for the next book and then my head goes a hundred miles an hour and I forgot I actually achieved something 🤣
How do you celebrate when one of your books is released?
I have a party in my Facebook group and invite author friends to do loads of giveaways. Other than that, I have a writing free day and a glass of wine. I think I really need to nail down this ‘celebrating your achievements’ thing🙈
What is the most challenging part of writing?
Too many ideas and trying to get them down fast enough before they go away. Finding time around full-time work and family is also difficult.
What part of writing is the most fun for you?
Because I’m a pantser it’s discovering the story I’m writing. Sometimes I genuinely gasp aloud as I write stuff!
What Authors or other books have inspired you to write?
Rachel van Dyken CM Owens and Meghan Quinn. I love their stuff. Genuinely I started writing cause I love laughing and smut. I felt like there’s not enough hilarious smutty books out there - so I decided to join the SmutCom revolution
What is your favorite passage from one of your books?
Gah! I hope you’d not ask that one! I’m genuinely terrible at choosing quotes from my books! I ask my beta team to highlight stuff they like and think is quotable. Words are my babies. Don’t ask me to choose between my babies 🤣
If you could meet any of your characters, who would it be and what would you say to them?
Carter. NSFW stuff for sure 😏🥵
