I don't break the rules. And falling for my little sister’s best friend would definitely be breaking the rules. Getting her pregnant was downright irresponsible.
GARRETT Aria is young. Too young. My little sister’s best friend is off-limits and always has been. Even if she wasn’t, the painfully beautiful woman is a shameless flirt—a free-spirited whirlwind of emotions. She shouldn’t appeal to me in the least. I’m looking to settle down and am desperate enough to allow the meddlesome residents of Landry to set me up. Aria Davenport isn’t on their list of suitable options, I made sure of that. Beyond our age difference and her relationship with my sister, the woman is my polar opposite. But for one night, I give into temptation and let my need for her take over.
ARIA After years of secretly pining for Garrett Caldwell—the grumpy and elusive hot town doctor—he finally looks my way. Maybe it was only once, and maybe that was exactly what we agreed to, but that one scorching night had consequences that will tie us together for the rest of our lives. An unexpected pregnancy changes everything and certainly has this small town talking. Suddenly he claims to want more and I can’t keep the doubt from creeping in. Because building a relationship based on feelings of responsibility and obligation would break me. So I guard my heart against the one man who has the power to destroy it.
The Landry Love Series is a set of interconnected, standalone, small-town romance novels.
So here's the deal.
I'm a lover of romance books. Obviously.
But there are books that come along, that for some reason, just click. They seem to feel like a missing puzzle piece to something you've been searching for.
The Surprise Seduction was that book. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of favorites, but this one just checked all of the boxes in just all of the right ways. These last few months it's been incredibly hard for me to read books dealing with pregnancies, babies, and miscarriage/child loss(it hit too close to home). This book helped ease back into it. (There is a miscarriage scare, so please be aware.)
-The banter was hilarious. (As expected with any Alves' book).
-The steam.. let's just say it was REAAALLY good. Garrett.. whew!! I don't need to embarrass any family members (potentially myself too!) who might read this review and attempt to question me about it.
-The "Break Up/Dark" Moment.. THIS is what made me really fall in love with this book. I'm not going to spoil it, but this was one of the BEST Dark scenes that I have read from a contemporary romance novel in a VERY long time. Chapter 36. That's all I'm going to say.
I'm not going to tell you to read this book. But I will tell you that this book deserves to be read. And this is going to be a re-read for me, for a very long time. Another 5-star win from Amy Alves and The Landry Love Series!
Cry Factor: (I didn't cry, but it hit me in the feels!)
Humor: 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (Amy's books toe the line of Rom-Com but focus more on banter and sarcasm.)
